Today was supposed to be the 2nd attempt at doing my qualifying cross country run, with a brief solo nav before hand just to warm up.
I arrive at Cranfield to find the plane has been double booked, and instead of taking off at 1pm I don’t finally get the go ahead until 3:30pm … 3:45 I was at Foxtrot One (F1) having performed my power checks and ready to depart.
Took off on runway 03 and headed to Woburn before setting course … only no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the DI to align and stay set … it was sticking, I pushed, pulled and wiggled the button used to set the gauge, but to no avail.
At this point, I decided head back to Cranfield and try to work it all out on the ground, rather than circling repeatedly and going nowhere.
By the time I’m on final approach it all looks like its sorted itself out, but I thought better to check it out on the ground and start again. My instructor meets me, we discuss the problem, and he suggests calling it quits for the day. Tomorrow is another day, we can try again
- except of course that didn’t happen due to booking issues.
