Went past the flying school this afternoon and popped in to say hi / see about sorting the exams.
Turns out a student hadn’t turned up, and the plane was free for the next 90 minutes or so … when they said “did I fancy some flying” they didn’t have to ask twice!
So we went up, and I had to re-plot the same course as I’d screwed up yesterday .. but as this had been going through my head so many times over night it wasn’t actually a major problem and it was all plotted and planned in about 5 minutes – even with double and triple checking the track/headings.
Up we went, and did pretty much the whole navigation spot on .. some minor corrections for wind and we found all spots just where they were supposed to be, and bang on time!
Height keeping was still a bit dodgy … 2300ft planned and for the most it was, but a couple of occasions (just after the instructor threw something odd into the mix / asked me to identify random villages to prove I knew exactly where we were, we did find either 2100ft briefly and 2400ft as well .. but 90% of the time 2250-2325ft was the order of the day.
All in all, feeling a little bit pleased with myself. Now however I need to do it again next week, solo this time … that should be fun!
Jon
